Aventurine is a semiprecious stone that derives its name from the Italian "aventura" which means "by chance." This is how it was mistakenly found by the Venetians back in the 18th century. It is a transparent to opaque quartz type that includes platy mineral inclusions, giving the stone a sparkling effect known as aventurescence. The bulk of aventurine originates from India, but it can also be found in Italy, Brazil, China, Tibet, Nepal and Russia.
